Have you bought a new washing machine that you want to install without help from experts? It’s a piece of cake with our advice.
1. Before connection
Washing machines tend to be secured with various screws and styrofoam for protection during transport. All these parts are listed in the leaflet which you receive along with the appliance. Study the leaflet thoroughly and gradually remove all the protective parts. A flat spanner and a bit of patience should be sufficient. Just place the plastic end caps in the holes left by the safety screws.
Image: The safety screws serve to stabilise the drum during transport. Never switch on the washer until the screws have been removed. Otherwise you risk irreparable damage to the appliance.
TIP: Don’t be surprised if you find remains of water in the drum. They prove that your machine has passed the factory test.
2. Water supply
The packaging also includes a supply hose with a black seal. Screw one end onto the back of the washer and the other to the water inlet. If you find that the hose is too short and you can’t reach the water inlet, get a longer one. Hose extensions are not recommended due to possible water leaks.
TIP: For 100% external protection against water leaks, we recommend water supply and drainage hoses with Aquastop. If there is a risk of leakage, the safety valves automatically stop water flow. Some machines have them included in the packaging, for basic models you must buy them separately. They cost around 650 CZK.
3. Water drainage
If your bathroom has a drainage pipe, simply connect the hose to it and you’re ready. If this is not the case, you can insert the drainage tube into a plastic elbow and hang it over the edge of your tub or sink. However, this option is neither very aesthetic nor safe.
If your outlet is prepared on the valve of your sink or tub, fit the hose onto the valve and secure with the hose clip and clamps to attach it correctly.
4. Power supply
Connect the washing machine to a 230 V electricity socket with a separate 16 A circuit breaker. Forget about a splitter or extension cord. These could irreparably damage the appliance. Direct connection is a much safer option. We also recommend using surge protectors, with which all the sockets in your bathroom should be equipped.
Image: On washing machines, unlike dryers, you can change the opening direction of the door. The reason is the different - convex shape of the door and the safety lock.
5. Flat surface
Once your machine is connected, check - ideally using a spirit level - that it is standing on a level. If your floor is not straight, use the adjustable feet, which all modern washing machines are fitted with. If the feet are not enough, use a dampening pad. It eliminates all vibrations and protects the floor from damage while protecting the appliance from premature wear. Unevenness of the floor is particularly harmful to the drum bearings, and other parts.
TIP: The manufacturer offers a free extended 10 to 20 year warranty on the engine in a number of washing machine motors. Read the instructions and register your appliance on the manufacturer’s official website as soon as possible.
